Privacy Policy - Lone Rider App
This Privacy Policy explains how LNRDR LLP ("Lone Rider", "we", "us") handles personal data in connection with the Lone Rider mobile application (iOS and Android) (the "Software").
This Privacy Policy applies to the Software only. Separate privacy notices apply to the Lone Rider website and online store.
Lone Rider is the controller of personal data processed under this Privacy Policy. We can be contacted at https://lonerider.com/pages/contact.
1. DEFINITIONS
In this Privacy Policy, the following terms have the meanings set out below:
"App Store Operator": any third-party platform, marketplace, or app store through which the Software is made available.
"Device": any device on which you install or use the Software, such as a smartphone or tablet.
"Lone Rider Product": a Lone Rider hardware product that the Software can connect to and control.
"Software": the Lone Rider mobile application.
"UK GDPR": the United Kingdom General Data Protection Regulation, as supplemented by the Data Protection Act 2018.
"User": you, the individual installing or using the Software.
2. WHAT DATA WE COLLECT
2.1 The Software is currently designed so that your data stays on your Device. We do not currently operate servers that store your personal data. This section explains what is processed on your Device today, and what may be processed in future if the Software evolves to include cloud-connected or account-based features.
2.2 The Software may process the following categories of data: (a) Device and configuration data: the operating system and version of your Device, the model identifier of the Lone Rider Product, its firmware version, and the configuration you apply to the Lone Rider Product through the Software. This data is stored locally on your Device and is not transmitted to Lone Rider. (b) Diagnostic and crash data: technical information generated automatically when the Software encounters an error, including error type, the function in which the error occurred, the Software version, and the operating system version. This data remains on your Device unless you choose to share it with us, and is not used to identify you. (c) Support data: any information you choose to provide when you contact us directly for support, such as your name, email address, and the contents of your communication.
2.3 We do not currently offer user accounts for the Software. If we introduce user accounts or other cloud-connected features in future, this Privacy Policy will be updated before that processing begins, and may include additional categories of data such as: (a) Account data: your name, email address, login credentials, and account identifiers, together with any settings or Lone Rider Product configurations you choose to save to your account. (b) Technical and log data: if the Software begins communicating with Lone Rider servers (for example, to support user accounts or cloud features), those servers may automatically record technical information such as your IP address, the date and time of a request, and the type of request made.
2.4 On some versions of Android, the operating system requires location permission before an app is allowed to scan for Bluetooth devices. Where the Software requests this permission, it does so solely to discover and connect to your Lone Rider Product. The Software does not collect, read, or store your location, and no location data is transmitted off your Device.
2.5 The Software retrieves reference content, such as supported motorcycle lists and help articles, from a cloud content service hosted for us by Google LLC. These requests do not contain personal data, although, as with any internet connection, the servers involved process your Device’s IP address in order to respond to the request.
3. HOW WE USE THIS DATA
3.1 We use the data set out in Clause 2.2 for the following purposes: (a) to provide the Software and allow you to configure and operate your Lone Rider Product, which is necessary for us to perform the licence under which we make the Software available to you; (b) to diagnose and fix faults in the Software and to improve its performance and stability, which is in our legitimate interests in maintaining a functional, reliable product; (c) to respond to your support requests, which is in our legitimate interests in supporting our customers; and (d) to comply with our legal obligations.
3.2 If we introduce the features described in Clause 2.3, we would use that data: (a) to create, administer, and secure your user account and to store the settings and configurations you save to it, which would be necessary for us to perform the licence under which we make the Software available to you; and (b) to operate, maintain, and secure our servers and systems, and to detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorised access, which would be in our legitimate interests in protecting our infrastructure and users.
4. WHO WE SHARE DATA WITH
4.1 As the Software does not currently transmit personal data to Lone Rider servers, we do not currently share personal data with third parties for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, except where you contact us directly for support, or as described below.
4.2 We share personal data only where necessary and only with the following categories of recipient: (a) service providers that host our in-app content or assist us with customer support, in each case acting on our written instructions that comply with applicable data protection law; (b) App Store Operators, in respect of any data they collect when you download or use the Software through their platform, which is governed by their own policies; and (c) competent authorities, where we are required to disclose data by law or legal process.
5. INTERNATIONAL TRANSFERS
5.1 Where our service providers process data outside the UK or EEA, we put in place appropriate safeguards, including the Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission and the UK International Data Transfer Agreement (or Addendum), as applicable.
6. HOW LONG WE KEEP DATA
6.1 We keep personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, considering the nature of the data, the purpose of processing, and any legal, accounting, or reporting obligations that apply. When we no longer need personal data, we delete or anonymise it. If we introduce server-side storage or logging in future, this section will be updated to specify applicable retention periods.
7. YOUR RIGHTS
7.1 Subject to applicable law, you have the right to: request access to the personal data we hold about you; request that it be corrected or deleted; object to or restrict our processing of it; receive a copy of it in a portable format; and withdraw any consent you have given. 7.2 To exercise any of these rights, contact us at https://lonerider.com/pages/contact. We will respond within one month of receiving your request, or notify you if we need longer. 7.3 If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your data, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) in the United Kingdom (ico.org.uk), or to the data protection authority in the EU member state where you live or work. We would, however, appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns first.
8. SECURITY
8.1 We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY
9.1 We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Where changes are material, we will notify you before the changes take effect.
10. CONTACT
